Stewards in Catholic Education Winners

Our Stewards of Catholic Education Award winner for 2017 was Peggy David.

Principal Darlene Charrette writes the following of Peggy acknowledging all that she contributed to our system and to our students.

  • Peggy spent her career teaching music in the Catholic System (mostly Elgin County). Since retiring 22 years ago, she has volunteer ½ day each week to teach bell choir to the students at Assumption, and one evening each week to teach bells to a group of ladies in the community.
  • Bell choir is unusual and very special. It develops skills beyond the technical aspects of the music. Students learn to read music and play, but must work together in order to make the music happen.
  • When I watch them playing, I see their concentration, perseverance, collaboration, ability to listen to each other in order to make the music happen, the pride on their faces when the music is playing correctly.
  • Peggy teaches them to use their skills to glorify God through sacred music and performances at Masses.
  • She is an ambassador of Catholic education because she has the students performing in other schools as well, promoting our System.
  • Below is a video of Peggy and her Bell Choir performing at a Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Secondary School.
