The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students the opportunity to experience an apprenticeship trade or occupation while they are still in secondary school. This gives the student the ability to make an informed decision about a potential career in the skilled trades. To be eligible for the OYAP program, students must:
OYAP enables employers/sponsors to work with students, providing an opportunity to assess the student's aptitude, attitude, and interest. If both the student and employer/sponsor are willing to further the commitment, the student can be registered with MTCU as an apprentice and continue apprenticeship training upon receiving her/his Ontario Secondary School Diploma. OYAP provides students with the opportunity to earn secondary school credits, gain valuable experience and, if registered, continue post-secondary apprenticeship training.
The focus of this event is to encourage female students in grade 9-12 to consider a variety of career pathways including apprenticeship. Parents are invited to attend this free event with their daughter.
