Occasional Teacher Roster
Occasional Teacher Applications for the Occasional Teacher Roster are processed in the same manner as applications for permanent teaching. The same application form is used for both positions, with the appropriate box(es) selected at the top of the form. Occasional Teacher hires are made throughout the year as the need arises.
Notice to all applicants graduating from a Faculty of Education: the Board requires that you be certified and in "Good Standing" with the Ontario College of Teachers before you can be considered for an occasional teaching position.
FAQ's Regarding the Teacher Application Process
Do you have to be Catholic to apply? The Board is a denominational employer and preference is given to Catholic Teachers. Non-Catholics are welcome to apply and their hiring will depend on the qualifications and number of applicants for a position.
I don’t have a current pastoral reference. What should I do? The Board prefers an up to date (within the last six months) reference indicating that you are a practicing Catholic. A reference from your former or ‘home’ priest is acceptable, but not preferable, if a current reference is not available. A letter from your priest, or the Board Pastoral Reference form are equally acceptable.
Is there a deadline for applying? There is no deadline however, you are advised to upload your documentation to www.applytoteach.ca as soon as possible as we are currently recruiting for occasional teaching staff.
I don’t have everything listed on the application form to send in. What should I do? Graduating students will not have their Ontario College of Teachers certification yet. Submit all other required documentation.
Do I also need to apply to individual schools? No. The interview and selection process is done centrally through the Human Resources Services Department.
How do I apply for occasional (supply) teaching positions? The application process is the same as for probationary positions. Interviews for occasional teaching positions are held on an "as needed" basis throughout the school year.
Can I supply teach in May and June before I get my certification? This is only done in emergency situations where there are no certified teachers available to supply teach. This is usually in areas where there is a short supply of certified teachers (ie French, music, math, science, and religion).
Can I apply for the job postings? No. Only current employees are eligible to apply for “Job Postings”.
