St. Anne's Library is Your INFORMATION STATION!

The St. Anne's School Library is a beautiful area in the school.  Falling under the umbrella of the London District Catholic School Board, the school library is served by the added benefits of the wide range of services offered by this larger Board.

Our school librarian is Mrs. Jennifer Van Acker-Barlow.  She is available in the library five days per week.  Mrs. Barlow supervises regularly-scheduled library and computer classes and enhances these by orchestrating two Scholastic Book Fairs each school year.  In addition, we have a reading challenge each year to inspire and encourage reading.

Forest of Reading:  Students in Grades 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Silver Birch Reading Program, and students in Grades 7 and 8 in the Red Maple Reading Program.  Students read at least 5 of the 10 nominated titles and vote on their favourite one in April; the book that gets the most votes out of all participating schools in Ontario sees the author receiving an award at the annual Festival of Trees celebration in May!  These "Forest of Reading" programs are through our school's registration with the Ontario Library Association.

These activities keep the students busy and interested in the contents of their school library!

Our school boasts a library collection of approximately 14,000 items, which include fiction, non-fiction, picture books, reference, professional resources, and magazines.  Classes are scheduled weekly for book exchange, acquiring library skills, learning research skills, storytelling, and computer lab.  Situated at the entrance of the school, the library is a focal point, inviting young patrons for browsing or research.

In addition to a variety of print resources, which include National Geographic Kids, Sports Illustrated Kids, Youpi, and Mon Mag à Moi, students have access to a number of online databases, including Kids InfoBits and the Canadian Encyclopedia.  These resources provide students with a wealth of information that can be used for satisfying research topics and browsing world events.

The computer lab is comprised of 29 desktop computers.  Classes use scheduled computer time once per week, and more if special projects arise.  We also have a class set of iPads available for teachers to sign out for their classes.  Technology is widely used at St. Anne's!
