About Our School
St. Bernadette Catholic School was first opened in 1959. We are a multicultural community with approximately 30% of our population being of Polish, Spanish or Portuguese descent. The school has enjoyed a strong association with the community and the Catholic School Council. Extensive contributions have been made by parents to help fund programs and activities that benefit the students directly. The Catholic School Council has helped fund the school playground, the renovation of the library, the purchase of computers for the lab and the classrooms and a variety of programs that support student learning in our school.
7 grade 1-8 classrooms, 2 Full Day Kindergarten classrooms, Library with computer lab, 1 staff work room, 1 Learning Centre classroom, and 1 gymnasium equipped with a stage and electronic scoreboard.
Living Our Faith
The staff and students have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic Faith. These include monthly school-wide masses and liturgy of the word celebrations. Students are also provided with the opportunity to go to confession twice during the school year. Living Faith Award assemblies are often held to recognize students for demonstrating Christian values.
St. Bernadette supports many charitable organizations during the school year such as:
Terry Fox Foundation; Jump Rope for Heart; Autism Awareness; Be An Angel Program and Christmas Raffle-purchase gifts for needy families; United Way; Children’s Safety Village; Donations of food to our local Food Bank.
Many of our students are transported by bus. Information on bus delays or cancellations due to inclement weather can be obtained from the local radio stations or the board web site (www. ldcsb.on.ca).
St. Bernadette Catholic School participates in the Safe Arrival Program. Students in grade 6 participate in the Values, Influence and Peers Program (V.I.P.). School and classroom codes of conduct are in place. Programs such as “Steps For Respect” and “Second Step” deal with violence prevention and the creation of a safe environment. Our students also are involved with the ‘Heroes’ program in grade seven.
