The first couple of years of high school are a time to discover your own unique talents and think about careers that suit your interests and abilities. Your Guidance Counsellor is the key support person with you to guide you along your journey! Your pathway is your very own map that leads to the career that's right for you.

Apprenticeship

  • Apprenticeship is a practical method of learning, providing hands-on training in over 130 skilled trades.
  • Apprentices are paid while gaining work experience; their wages increase as they develop their skills.
  • Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the- job training and theoretical learning in a classroom setting and lasts 2 - 5 Years.

You may be Interested In Apprenticeship & Skilled Trades If:
  • You enjoy hands-on learning and have good mechanical and spacial abilities.
  • You enjoy fixing things, assembling and taking fixtures apart.
  • You enjoy applying your skills and knowledge to real life problems.
  • You enjoy investigating why something does not work and how it can be done better.

College

  • You can attend college after high school graduation or after attending university.
  • You must fulfill certain admission requirements in order to be accepted into college programs.
  • These programs combine real life skills with theoretical education and training.
  • Colleges have certificate , diploma, graduate certificate, applied degree or joint college-university programs that Usually take 1 - 3 years to complete.

  • You find success in hands-on curriculum.
  • You enjoy smaller classes and the personal approach to instruction.
  • You have specific career goals that require a college education you are interested in developing technical and occupational skills required for your chosen area.

Work And On-The-Job Training

  • A wide variety of careers require a high school diploma, followed by specific on the-job Training.
  • Various high school programs provide opportunities far students to meet initial requirements for entering specific industries, allowing for a smooth transition from school to a workplace.

  • You have developed practical skills throughout your courses you wish to defer further postsecondary education and training until a later date.
  • You have specific career goals in mind that allow you to go directly to the workplace or on-the-job training.

University

  • You can attend university after high school graduation or after college.
  • You must fulfill certain admission requirements in order to be accepted into a university program.
  • University provides a variety of degree programs that are theoretical in nature ranging from 3 - 10 years of study.
