Summer School

• Online students are expected to log into their course shell and actively engage in learning daily. Attendance will be recorded the following day, and a student will be marked present if the student submits the required assessment of the day. Simply logging into the course shell is not enough to be marked present. 
• In-person students are expected to attend and actively engage in learning daily. Attendance will be taken within 20 minutes of the start of each class. 
• Active engagement means submitting assignments, corresponding with their teacher, participating in discussion posts (online) and learning course content.  
• If a student does not engage in learning for 3 days, their credit will be at risk and will most likely need to be withdrawn from the course.  
• Please remember one day of summer school is the equivalent of one week of semestered learning.  
• Online students are expected to engage in 5.5 hours of asynchronous learning every day.  
• In-person students are expected to attend their class for 5.5 hours daily.  
• If you do not log into your course and submit an assessment or attend in-person by July 5th, you will be removed from the course. 
• Requests for work to be provided in advance for a vacation will not be accomodated. 
• MFA's, which allow access to LDCSB accounts while out of country, need to be set up and tested before you leave the country, see instructions below.

Absence Reporting  

• Please email your teacher to report an absence.  

Students are expected to become self-directed, responsible, lifelong learners who develop and demonstrate their God-given potential. Active engagement in learning is key to the achievement of these expectations. Students demonstrate achievement of the learning skills and work habits by accepting responsibility for providing evidence of their achievement of the overall expectations within the time frame specified by the teacher, and in a form approved by the teacher. This is critical given the pace of Summer School and includes consequences for not completing assignments for evaluation purposes or for submitting these assignments late. Teachers will always take proactive measures to support the completion of assignments in a timely manner. 

Students will be givien a new date for submission of an outstanding assignment. If the assignment is not submitted by the date, a mark of zero will be awarded.  

If the missing assignment is submitted by the new date: 

• Students enrolled in a grade 9 or 10 course will receive no mark deduction.  
• Students enrolled in a grade 11 and 12 course will receive a mark deduction of 10%. 

If a Missing Assignment Contract is needed, please ensure current engagement is adjusted to ensure another Missing Assignment Contract is not required. If multiple Missing Assignment Contracts are needed, the student will be referred to the Vice Principal and may be removed from the course. 

July 1: Canada Day (No school)

July 2 (Day 1): First day of Summer School for online new full credit, term 1 credit recovery and civic & careers. First day of co-op placements

July 14 (Day 9): Culminating Activities due for all half credit courses 

 July 15 (Day 10):

• Midpoint for full credits. A current grade and comment will be provided to all students and parents/guardians by noon. Please note that there are no formal midterm reports in Summer School.  
• Last day of term 1 credit recovery and civics & careers. 

 July 16 (Day 11): First day of term 2 credit recovery and civic & careers.

July 22 (Day 15): Last day to drop a full credit course.

 July 28 (Day 19): Culminating Activities due for all online full credit courses 

 July 29 (Day 20):

• Last day of Summer School for all courses 
• Student Success Day for online and in-person full credits 
• Opportunity to receive feedback from teachers about assessments, including the culminating activity. 
• For in-person students, this will be the last day to complete any outstanding projects.
• Teaching staff will no longer be accessible after 2:00pm

July 30:

• Report Cards will be sent home via Digital Document Delivery from [email protected]. See information provided below under Communications and Report Cards for more information.
• Please note, report cards will also be sent to home schools to be stored in the OSR and will be accessible via Parent Portal in September as well.
• Since summer school is designated as semester 3 of the previous school year, the report cards for students who are starting grade 9 in September will show ‘no credit earned’ on their report since their new diploma has not yet been assigned. Students who pass their course will earn their credit and it will appear on their transcripts and final report cards moving forward.

July 30: Final Marks will be uploaded to OCAS and OUAC

July 31: The Summer School Office will close at noon. Summer School email accounts will not be monitored after this time.

If you wish to drop your Summer School course prior to Summer School starting, please have a parent/guardian contact your guidance counsellor at the school you will be attending in September before June 26.

• If you decide to drop your summer school course after the course commences, please have a parent/guardian complete the Microsoft Form linked: https://forms.office.com/r/2brvVxcCGt  
• A student is able to drop their full credit course at any point, without academic penalty, up until day 15. After day 15, students will not be permitted to drop their full credit course.
• A student can drop their half-credit course at any point, without academic penalty, up until day 7. After day 7, students will not be permitted to drop their half-credit course.

Students planning to travel outside of Canada: your teacher or school principal will need to contact the IT Helpdesk to enable MFA on your LDCSB account before you leave Canada.  It cannot be set up outside of Canada.

The Board has no way of guaranteeing that students will have access LDCSB e-mail, Microsoft Office, the VLE, etc. during their travels outside of Canada.

To combat phishing e-mails and online identity theft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required when traveling.  MFA is a way to protect users by prompting you to confirm that the computer or device you are using to access your board Office 365 account is trusted by you. This is done using a special application installed on one of your devices.  

Online students are expected to have their own technology for Summer School. The LDCSB does not loan devices for Summer School. Students will need to have access to a Chromebook or Laptop to interact with online content. A smartphone will not allow access to all content.

• A link to access summer school report cards are emailed to the parent/guardian email address on file.
• See below for instructions as to how to access the Summer School electronic report card. Please note, you will only have 14 days to access the link and download the report card.
• All final grades are stored in our Student Information System and are immediatly accesible by each student's home school.
• All final report cards will be sent to each student's home school to be stored in their OSR.
• Report cards will also be accessible via Parent Portal in September.
