Day of Mourning

Day of Mourning Acknowledgement & Opening Prayer

April 28, is the National Day of Mourning. We take time today to remember and honour those workers who have died, been injured or suffered illness in the workplace especially during this Pandemic. Flags at all LDCSB schools, all government buildings and numerous other places of work, will lower their flags to half-staff to remember the over 200 workers every year who die due to traumatic injuries or work-related diseases or conditions. We remember them and many more and pray for those affected by workplace tragedy, their families and loved ones.

Please visit Public Services Health and Safety Services (PSHSA) to light a virtual candle for all of those affected by workplace injuries, fatalities, and disease

Prayer of Protection for Those Facing Dangers at Work

In the name of The Father, and The Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father, there are many hidden dangers for so many in their work environment

and many who are forced to accept work in some ‘high risk’ work positions. Many of

these jobs are so that the rest of us can receive the various services that we find so

necessary in our technological age.

We pray for these workers who deliberately place their lives in jeopardy in order to help

and service the rest of the community – soldiers, pilots and police officers, firefighters

and anglers, builders and construction workers, those who work in nuclear power plants

or other industries like electrical engineering. We pray for any workers and families who

have lost loved ones and/or who have been affected by COVID-19 in the workplace.

Lord, we thank You for all the workers who each day are facing some sort of danger

and we ask Your loving protection around each one. In Your name we pray,

Amen.
In the name of The Father, and The Son and The Holy Spirit
