2021-22 Secondary Virtual Enrollment Form

Dear Current and Soon-to-be Secondary Student Parents/Guardians,

Even though it is still early spring, planning is underway for the Fall and what we expect the 2021-22 school year to look like for our secondary students. (Please note: if you also have students in elementary school, information will follow at a later date).

If you plan on your secondary child to attend school in person for 2021-22, you can disregard the rest of this message.

If you wish to consider enrolling your child in our Board’s full remote/virtual secondary school for 2021-22, please continue reading.

Virtual Secondary School Continues

St. Josephine Bakhita, the LDCSB’s virtual secondary school, will continue for the 2021-22 school year. St. Josephine will have its own administration and student services support staff including, guidance, special education, ESL, student success, and social work support.  A full selection of courses will be offered at each grade level. Similar to our in-person schools, student course requests will determine which courses are offered. Courses will be delivered synchronously and asynchronously through the Virtual Learning Environment and Microsoft Teams following a daily schedule similar to that of our in-person secondary schools.

Who It’s For

  • Students who excelled at online learning during the provincial lockdowns
  • Students who need only a few courses to graduate

Who It’s Not For

  • French Immersion
  • Music Extension
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Advanced Placement
  • Students who found remote learning during provincial lockdowns challenging
  • Households with device/internet access issues

Request to Transfer

Students and families choosing virtual/remote learning are committing to that mode of learning for the 2021-2022 school year. A transfer from virtual learning to in person learning during the school year will require a transfer request be made to the student’s home secondary school or vice-versa. These transfers will only be able to take place between semester I and semester II.

New Information for 2021-22 Secondary School Year
For the current year, LDCSB secondary schools operated under an octomester model (one course at a time) with two cohorts (half the class attending school in person on a particular day).

School boards across Ontario have learned that, for September, secondary schools will most likely operate under a quadmester model (two classes per day) with all students attending class in-person five days a week.

Please complete the form (link below) by the end of the day on June 1 if you wish your secondary student to be enrolled in full remote/virtual learning for the 2021-22 school year.
