Preparing for Summer Break

Many people eagerly anticipate summer break. For most, it is an opportunity to slow down and relax their routine. For others, though, times of transition and change can feel overwhelming. Without the daily structure and connection to peers, summer break can be a stressful time.  Today’s Wellness Wednesday offers some tips and resources to help ease the transition and plan for summer.

Try this:

As a class, group, or family:

  • Brainstorm some ideas and answers to any or all of these questions:
  • What are you looking forward to this summer?
  • What is one thing you can do every day by yourself to add some fun?
  • What is one thing you can do every day as a family to add some fun?
  • What is a healthy activity you can include in your day?
  • What will you do when you get bored?

Ask yourself, there is no wrong answer:

How am I feeling about the summer break?

What can I do to calmly and confidently support the young people in my life during the summer

What can I do to support myself?

Connecting to our faith:

Times of change and transitions can make us feel overwhelmed with uncertainty. Remembering that God is a constant in our life can ease our worried hearts and minds.  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

He is with us and will guide us every step of the way. “Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
