Offer Daily Greetings

There are many positive results when we offer daily greetings to others. Being acknowledged by someone can help us to feel connected, noticed, and valued. Consider making eye contact, smiling, and saying hello to others. It may be the energizing start that they need for their day. We never know how profound an effect we can have on others until we try. Sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most.

In today’s Wellness Wednesday, explore ways to offer daily greetings.

Try this:

As a class, group, or family:

· Brainstorm creative ways to greet one another. Ask others how they would like to be greeted (i.e., language, action, name, etc.).

· Apply the 5 x 10 rule: if someone is within 10 feet, make eye contact and smile. If they are within 5 feet, say hello. Greet people in a way that matters to them AND that is authentic to you. A simple smile, wave, or quick “hi” is all you need.

· Encourage everyone to greet others throughout the day.

Ask yourself, there is no wrong answer:

How can I use daily greetings in my life?

In what ways do others show me that I matter?

Connecting to our faith:

“Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.” (1 Peter 5:14)

Rituals, like daily greetings, are deeply rooted in Catholicism. They reflect ways in which we celebrate and connect as a Catholic community, building a sense of belonging, creating a positive school climate, and supporting cultural identities.
