Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD)

LDCSB and the Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD)

The LDCSB embodies a broad, holistic view of education that supports students growth in a number of domains including academic, athletic, social, and spiritual.

In order to support highly motivated student athletes in these domains, the LDCSB and the Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD) provide a unique learning experience focused on high performance sports, post-secondary pathways, and broad success.

The LDCSB and ASAD Partnership

In ASAD, LDCSB student athletes have the opportunity to train consistently, at a high level, while also obtaining all credits needed to graduate within four years and be well positioned for post-secondary opportunities and success.

In the program, students spend their morning or afternoon participating in general conditioning and sport specific activities at the Elite Performance & Injury Centre and the Komoka Wellness Centre (1 Tunks Lane, Komoka), obtaining two credits based on their activities and interests.

The mission of the ASAD program is “to deliver a high-performance" program that goes beyond the field of play, empowering individuals to achieve personal goals in athletic performance, academics and life. ASAD works in collaboration with a team of experts and leaders in the Canadian Sport system to create a dedicated training environment where student athletes can elevate their game.”

Schedule

Students will have a tailored schedule to align their specific athletic training with their academic goals. They will attend Elite Performance & Injury Centre and the Komoka Wellness Centre (1 Tunks Lane, Komoka) for half of the day where they will be granted a credit based on their participation with ASAD, in addition to one online credit. They will also earn two credits per semester through their home school, based on personalized scheduling in addition to an online option to ensure that student athletes remain on track to graduate.

Athletic Components

Multiple sports are currently offered through the London ASAD program, notably hockey (EPIC Academy), soccer, volleyball and football, with each sport supported by coaches with Provincial and/or National sport organization recognition. These coaches provide technical sessions that include individual skill development and tactical game play aimed at developing independent, self-reliant student-athletes.

Strength and conditioning sessions are also included in the London ASAD program, with these sessions being individualized and tailored to the specific student-athlete's needs, goals, and abilities while considering sport-specific contexts and movements.

Location and Transportation

Morning and afternoon sessions take place at Elite Performance & Injury Centre and the Komoka Wellness Centre (1 Tunks Lane, Komoka). Students and families are responsible for arranging transportation.
