Community Service

"The miracle is not that we do this work, but that we are happy to do it." Mother Teresa

Community Service encourages students to develop social responsibility, to appreciate the various roles they can play in their communities and to help them develop a greater sense of belonging within their respective communities. Effective September 1, 1999, every student who begins secondary school in Ontario will be required to complete 40 hours of community service as part of his/her diploma requirements.  Effective July 1, 2011 students will be able to start accumulating community involvement hours in the summer before they enter grade 9.

Stewardship through Service provides information on the community involvement requirement for students, parents, and for the persons and organizations that are asked by students to sponsor a particular community involvement activity. Students maintain and provide a record of their community service activities using the Community Involvement Form.  This document is the responsibility of the student. The dates and times of student community service must be confirmed by the organizations or supervising persons.
